Tips to Keep in Mind while giving your Heating Registers Some Space this Winter

Let’s remember that heating registers refers to the baseboard, side wall or other permanent heating mechanics in your apartment.  It is important to keep them free from clutter and obstructions.  It is important to allow air to circulate around them.  Move furniture bookcases, baskets and boxed away from the heaters in your apartment.

Other tips to keep Heating Registers Clear to help them do their work:
  • Any thing that can burn such as upholstered furniture, clothing, mattresses, or bedding should be moved away from any heating source/register. The National Fire Protection Service recommends keeping them at least 3 feet away.
  • Absolutely no resident is permitted to use a space heater of any kind in their  apartment home. These devices contribute to 79% of all fatal home heating fires.  Dress warmly, regulate your temperature and if you need assistance to help with fuel costs, you can apply for assistance by contacting Southern New  Hampshire Services or visit www.snhs.org.
